- Eradication of initial P. aeruginosa colonization in pts with CF (2002)
- The optimal treatment for the eradication of initial P. aeruginosa infection in CF is still unclear. Recently long-term inhaled tobramycin has been proposed. Here we report the results with brief inhaled and/or systemic anti-pseudomonal treatments. Initial P. aeruginosa colonization was successfully eradicated as demonstrated by negative repetitive throat cultures or sputa and serum antipseudomonal antibodies in 15 of 17 patients for at least two years.

- Lispro (Human Analog) (entered 2002)
- Humalog (insulin lispro, rDNA origin) is a human insulin analog that is a rapid-acting, parenteral blood glucose-lowering agent. Chemically, it is Lys(B28), Pro(B29) human insulin analog, created when the amino acids at positions 28 and 29 on the insulin B-chain are reversed. Humalog is synthesized in a special non-pathogenic laboratory strain of Escherichia coli bacteria that has been genetically altered by the addition of the gene for insulin lispro.

- Orphan Drug Designation for Aztreonam For Inhalation Therapy (2002)
- Corus Pharma announced that Corus 1020
(aztreonam) has been granted orphan drug designation by the U.S. Food and Drug
Administration (FDA) for inhalation therapy for control of gram-negative
bacteria in the respiratory tract of patients with cystic fibrosis. Corus 1020 is an antibiotic that has a broad spectrum of activity against
gram-negative bacteria. Inhaled antibiotics effectively treat gram-negative
infections in patients with cystic fibrosis because of the higher local
concentrations of drug at the site of infection.
