- Orphan Drug Designation for Aztreonam For Inhalation Therapy (2002)
- Corus Pharma announced that Corus 1020
(aztreonam) has been granted orphan drug designation by the U.S. Food and Drug
Administration (FDA) for inhalation therapy for control of gram-negative
bacteria in the respiratory tract of patients with cystic fibrosis. Corus 1020 is an antibiotic that has a broad spectrum of activity against
gram-negative bacteria. Inhaled antibiotics effectively treat gram-negative
infections in patients with cystic fibrosis because of the higher local
concentrations of drug at the site of infection.

- P. cystic fibrosis: past, present, future
- Most patients with cystic fibrosis (CF) suffer from recurrent and chronic endobronchial P aeruginosa infections. The accumulated knowledge shows that it is possible to prevent or delay the onset of these chronic infections in most CF patients by eliminating cross-infection and by early aggressive antibiotic treatment of intermittent colonization.

- Sporanox and Hepatiits
- In U.S. clinical trials prior to marketing, there have been three cases of reversible idiosyncratic hepatitis reported among more than 2500 patients taking Sporanox (itraconazole capsules). One patient outside the U.S. developed fulminant hepatitis and died during Sporanox administration. Since this patient was on multiple medications, the casual association with Sporanox is uncertain. If clinical signs and symptoms consistent with liver disease develop that may be attributable to itraconazole, Sporanox should be discontinued.
